i was just thinking, i have been recommending fileden to a lot of people lately. people who are using sites like yousendit & megaupload and having to upload their files over and over again because the links "expire"
i was wondering if maybe you could have some system where you could be rewarded if you recommend filden to people and they sign up. maybe get a little more space or bandwidth.

Hiya, I've got plans for a referal system in which the top referring users will win some form of prize :). Currently we're going full speed ahead on getting our paid packages out of the door. Once we're done on that we'll start working on some all-around new features :).
Thanks!

yes that is indeed a good idea. Like you give your friend a referral link and if they sign up you both get 50mb extra space.

I found that with any 'referal system rewards' there is always one user who outstrips all other users, and makes the entire referal system seem completely pointless for the majority, for example *****.com have a referal system in place: and here's how there current top scorers pan out:-
1 plebius 9102
2 myspaceboy 2123
3 flmp3 2061
4 udorawala 588
5 eltiochan 373
6 swissmiss 357
7 marco_O 332
8 eagletalontim 196
9 franc83 130
10 katerox77 127 That's just the top ten users, yet look at the obvious difference between #1 and #10 and the 7000 point gap between user#1 and user#2 let alone the hundreds of other users, need I say any more!

Well, instead of giving the top person a prize, maybe give people a smaller prize but for like, the ammount of people they refer
Example:
250 referals last month = Extra XXX bandwidth and XXX extra space this month
100 referals last month = extra XXX bandwidth this month
Well, something like that. I used bandwidth and space for an example.

The first obvious problem with such a scheme would be keeping track of all the individual account changes.

Good point. However that can be fixed by making account types with those limits, and when the person reaches the designated amount of referrals they could contact a staff member and have it checked out. Or if fileden is a rather large community of people then maybe they can set up some sort of automatic script that would do it automatically when they reach the amount.

I'm not sure about increasing bandwidth/space as many people would prefer a financial reward - I'm not sure how many people would be willing to refer just for the chance of extra space / bandwidth.
We could perhaps do a combination of the two, so the top 3 members win a cash prize with all other users getting an increase in space & bandwidth dependning on how many users they referred. How does that sound?

As you suggest, I think most users would be inclined to swing towards wanting a cash reward for the prize. however I suppose having either a cash prize or a definable increase in storage capacity and bandwidth is a nice thought too, and either could be offered as a members choice of prizes.
