I've got a couple of files stored on fileden to which I've sent people the URL's. The concern I have is that the URL's could be forwarded on to other people or posted on the web and then other persons could get access to the files. Is there any way that I can link the URL's to specific users or a groups of users. I had a hosting account previously where it was linked to an e-mail and the user would be given access from a link in the e-mail

I have come across this problem myself and have found a number of ways to prevent this.
1. Post the file URL to the user you wish to share the file, and offer a limited time before the file becomes unavailable, Simply rename the file by one character to prevent further unwanted access.
2. Host a webpage on a free account somewhere, www.freewebs.com (http://www.freewebs.com) is a cool starter package. create a webpage with a simple password access system (non SQL)
There are plenty of java password protect examples if you don't have html or php knowledge.
click here (http://www.ctek-solutions.co.uk/Java/) for my helpful java-by-example tutorials that I compiled a while ago.
3. Lasty dont give out direct links to files, instead you can use a DNS re-director to conceal your true URL identity with a free site like NOIP.com (http://www.no-ip.com)
