View Full Version : What do you use FileDen for?

Since joining FileDen I have rather quickly filled my account to the maximum limit (500Mb) with a wealth of files I use to support my Live Space. From games to software, images and animations, audio streaming playlists to ringtones and videos.
I was wondering what FileDen members use their alloted space for?
I would also be interested to know if you publically share folders,
or prefer to keep them private?
Examples:
Purely static file storage
Video files for streaming
Audio files for media players
Games and/or alt entertainment

I joined FileDen some time ago, as a place to store my random stuff, such as QB programs (oldskool, baby), html files, and random logs.
FileDen was by far the best file host I have ever used, because they allowed hotlinking, had plenty of storage spage and bandwidth, and weren't uptight about file extensions.
Yeah, you can probably see where I'm going with this. Back to the crappy old filehosts, at least I can actually host my stuff there.

Hi Trinexx,
What's the problem with your File Den account? I don't have any records of any support requests.
Kind regards,
The File Den Team.

 I'm using Fileden for storage of files (especially music...) and use it in blog spots...
Uhm... I wonder if I'm able to share these files *giggles*:D

Hi there! I haven't uploaded anything as yet, but I plan on using my file storage here for music on my Yahoo! 360 website and not much else. I might occasionally upload other material, depending on its importance to me. I simply don't trust various websites (moderators: no offense intended,) to store my really important documents or pictures in case they simply vanish into the ether with the shutdown of the website. I've had that happen before on a file storage website and lost irretrievable, very important files. At least music is able to be retrieved elsewhere.

I firstly no offence taken, actually we welcome your valued opinion and feedback, I understand your fears about storing valuable & sensitive files on any online storage sites, Filelodge was proof of that.
However there are professional online secure storage facilities, designed in such a way that your files are stored in mirror so that there is always a secure backup. XDrixe.com for example is one such site.
In order to store any file securely, I recommend getting a third party compression program like Winzip or WinRAR then zip & password protect all your sensitive files before uploading.

Hey Puniksem :)
Your information was *very* helpful thank you! I'd also like to comment on the moderator visibility - I'm really impressed with how often the moderators check and see if their help is needed. This is a wonderful asset to the site and assists in restoring my faith with regard to file storage websites.
How secure is Fileden exactly?
If I zipped, password protected and uploaded very sensitive, *irreplaceable* files - is there any danger in the future of losing them into the ether at some time in the future?
Do you have a mirror site where you store back-ups? What else can you tell me, to reassure the uploading of *irreplaceable* files? Thank you once again! ;) ~ Swannie ~

Firstly, a big thank you for your compliments, as the forums moderator, I like to keep abreast of Spammers, who seem to love blitzing our forum with daily crap, and I say that from the heart, CRAP!
On average for every minute spent answering genuine user questions, I have to spend five getting rid of spam bulk messages, that are left by faceless annonymous users who try selling their otherwise unsellable junk.
I'm online most of the day and monitor this forum hourly for any activity.

Answer: If a file is transfered without the explicit use of SSL (secure socket layer) one can never quarantee of file security or transfer integrity.

I personally do not have faith in any online storage facilities for the storage of 'critical' files. I have moe faith in Cd writable discs.

I cannot say for sure about all technical aspects of fileden's storage setup as I serve here purely in a voluntary capacity, however I'm pretty sure that a mirror setup is not incorporated.I hope this serves to answer some or all of your questions...

Hello,
Currently a mirror setup is not incorporated and file den is not intended as a storage of 'mission critical' files, or atleast files that you don't have a backup of.
We will be doing regular backups of premium users however in the future along with putting them on a separate network to increase the premium benefits.
Kind regards,
The File Den Team.

I hear you there Puniksem! I run one website and three mailing lists, I keep getting tons of spam in our guestbook on our website and need to forever keep editing it. Our mailing lists keep sending through spam to the list owner (me) that I have to go through every time I open my email.

^^ SPAM
anyway, i use fileden to host a couple of files that are used in conjunction with an open source piece of software, to offer users greater security. so far ive found fileden to be the best and most reliable site to host the files.

Me too. And sweet images. Wish I could find more radio jingles, though.

Fileden is funded in a couple of ways, one of which is advertising to FREE account holders.
All premium accounts are exempt from these adverts, and benefit from FTP access and secure servers. (when they're finally working properly again) LOL!:)
